A NEW DOCUMENTARY

BECAUSE I CAN
THE BRITISH AND UKRAINIAN VOLUNTEERS
WHO PROCURE AND DRIVE AMBULANCES TO
THE FRONT LINE IN UKRAINE.

BECAUSE I CAN
What makes an individual take a cumbersome armoured ambulance down the long road from the auction yards of Britain to the front line in Ukraine - a 2,000 mile one-way journey through eight countries that takes three or four days?
This film tells the true stories of some of those who make that long journey.

Simon Waller, chemical analyst at Cardiff University.

A Samaritan armoured ambulance destined for Ukraine.
One very useful vehicle is a Samaritan FV104 tracked, armoured ambulance. Capable of thrashing over rough country or through devastated cities, Samaritans were made in Coventry in the 90’s.
The Samaritan is a front-line vehicle that can evacuate wounded civilians or soldiers in hot war zones.
YELLOW CANARY PRODUCTIONS
YELLOW CANARY PRODUCTIONS is Steve Haisman and Clive Howard, with Jimmy Chiba.
We've been making films together since 2012, mainly promos, short films and arts-based documentaries.
"BECAUSE I CAN" is a result of hearing the stories of the many Russian and Ukrainian friends we made whilst filming in Russia. Their direct experiences of the humanitarian crises resulting from the war inspired us to make this new film.
